Our emotional wellbeing matters just as much as our physical health, and too many of us forget to nurture ourselves! You need to prioritise yourself and take some time to recharge to avoid burning out. Everyone’s self-care routine will be different, but we’ve got some tips on how you can create one you’ll stick to.
Practice What Brings You Joy
What do you enjoy in life? What are some of your favourite hobbies that you’ve put on the backburner because you’re not allowing yourself enough ‘me-time’? Everyone has different tastes, so pick what you enjoy doing and you’ll have something to look forward to. It might not sound like it, but practicing your favourite hobbies or activities is a form of self-care because you’re allowing yourself to enjoy spending time with yourself!
Embrace Nature
You don’t have to go for a hike, you don’t even have to go for a walk! Simply sitting outside in the sun for 15-30 minutes is going to benefit your overall wellbeing. Vitamin D is essential for your mental health — deficiencies in the powerful sun vitamin have been proven to lower energy levels and mood. So, do your body a favour and spend some time outdoors.
Disconnect From Technology
We all love our phones, tablets and laptops... a bit too much! Turning off the screens for a while offers many benefits for your mental and emotional wellbeing. Allowing yourself to unplug stops the constant stream of notifications, emails and social media updates, which can all contribute to you feeling overwhelmed. It might be tough to spend time away from the screens at first, but it encourages mindfulness and promotes focus.
Self-care is so important, and you should treat this time to yourself as a non-negotiable appointment! A healthy balanced diet, and regular physical activity also fit under the title of self-care, but from an emotional standpoint, it’s all about being present, allowing yourself to process your emotions and learning to love yourself.
